Das Rheingold

Der Ring des Nibelungen

From 2010 to 2013 Guy Cassiers will be directing Richard Wagner's opera cycle The Ring of the Nibelung for the Scala Theatre in Milan. Musical direction is by the world-renowned Daniel Barenboim.

Der Ring des Nibelungen is a joint production of the Scala Theatre in Milan and the Berlin State Opera (Unter den Linden), in collaboration with Toneelhuis.

Cassiers will be working with a core group of artists from previous productions: Enrico Bagnoli, Arjen Klerkx, and Kurt d'Haeseleer. Tim Van Steenbergen is costume designer and Erwin Jans is dramaturge. Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui of the Eastman Company is choreographing the dance sequences.

In May 2010, Das Rheinghold, the first part of the The Ring of the Nibelung, premiered in Milan.
