‘Let us live without daylight, if in that way we can escape death.’ (I think she was afraid of death.) ‘No,’ said the other, ‘we will have daylight as well as death.’ And as soon as the woman had uttered these words, they became reality. There was light and peace and death.
Inuït story)

In SUN-SET (before: Kosmogonie), Ezra Veldhuis, Oshin Albrecht and Bosse Provoost go on a quest for a cosmogonic moment: the emergence of something out of nothing, ‘the birth of a world’. Light always plays a central and ambiguous role in stories about the origins of the cosmos. Light reveals, but remains invisible itself. It becomes even more unfathomable when we realize that darkness always remains in hiding behind light. And that the darkness we think we see turns out to be a colour disguised as darkness.

SUN-SET is an intimate production in which scenography, light and poetic staging principles are used in an attempt to visualize what lies beyond the limits of our imaginative capacity: light, death, the void, a glimpse of a god. Such a futile undertaking can only result in bastard worlds, populated by blind seers and sphinxes.

SUN-SET has its premiere on 6 February 2020 in Antwerp. In November, after six weeks of working on this production, Ezra Veldhuis, Oshin Albrecht and Bosse Provoost will present a first version at the Playground arts festival.
