The Golden Stool, the story of Nana Yaa Asantewaa is a story about sovereignty and theft, about the power of symbols and the importance of being mentally independent. But most of all, about Nana Yaa Asantewaa, the woman whose life revolves around her activism.
On stage are ten black women: South-African singers Nobulumko Mngxekeza-Nziramasanga (soprano) and Nonkululeko Nkwinti (mezzo-soprano), strengthened by a choir of eight singers, dancers, and percussionists. This afrOpera blends Western Classical opera repertoire into a highly rhythmical, dynamic soundtrack.
