This spring Olympique Dramatique departs for Amsterdam for a coproduction with Alex van Warmerdam of The Mexican Dog / Orkater. Van Warmerdam (1952) is a writer, designer, painter, director, and actor. In his theater productions and his films, Van Wamerdam creates dark, grim worlds in which the strangest things seem normal. His scripts are concise and not lacking in black, shameless humor. His last production for the stage, Wees ons genadig (Have mercy on us), was in 2007. In 2009 he made his seventh feature film, De laatste dagen van Emma Blank (The last days of Emma Blank). Alex van Warmerdam has received a number of prizes for his theater and film work. He himself compares his style to that found in nature films: 'In that genre you see animals mate, eat, and even eat each other. My characters do that too; they fight, mate, and eat like crazy.'
Alex van Warmerdam is writing a new script for Olympique Dramatique and a few actors from his company. He is also directing.
